A few days at the Pouilly-en-Auxois workshop, around a dry-assembled heater core: refractories, insulation, channels, flue, and the mistakes that cost dearly. Short sessions, in small groups, for professionals who build — or who want to start.
Upcoming sessions
No session is currently open for registration. The next ones are being scheduled for autumn 2026. Tell us what interests you: you will be notified as soon as the date, duration and price are set.
What a workshop session is
It is not a lecture. The workshop is where heater cores are dry-assembled before going out to site: you work there on real parts, with the same bricks, the same mortars and the same doors as on a project.
- Refractories and insulation — grog, calcium silicate, expansion, joints: why a heater core must be able to move, and what breaks when it cannot.
- Smoke channels — cross-sections, lengths, baffles, cleaning doors. The section through the flue path gives an idea of what is at stake.
- The flue and draught — connection, diameter, height, external combustion air supply, airtight houses.
- Assembling a kit — building a Finnish kit, from unboxing to first fire.
- Sizing — reading a design calculation, understanding what it constrains, and knowing when to call before laying a brick.
Who it is for
Masons, stove builders, flue installers, plasterers and tilers who already work with their hands, and self-builders committed to a real project. There is no diploma prerequisite: there is a practice prerequisite. Building a masonry heater is fine masonry work, in which a session is no substitute for hands-on experience.
What you take away
- A named and dated certificate of attendance.
- The assembly documentation: outline plans, order of steps, checkpoints.
- The trade price on materials and hardware at Cœur de Foyer.
- The first step of the installer network.

Be notified of the next session
The autumn sessions are being scheduled. Tell us what interests you and when you are available: you will be notified as soon as the date, length and price are set — and not before, because we do not publish dates we might not keep.
