built by hand.

Each heater is sized for a specific volume, lifestyle and house — then built in masonry with materials that last for decades.

‘Snail’ masonry heater in a terracotta spiral, école maternelle du Bois-Perrier in Rosny-sous-Bois

‘Snail’ heater — école du Bois-Perrier, Rosny-sous-Bois · winner of both prizes in the 2026 AFPMA photo competition

From line to fire — the film of the project (24 s)

No dialogue. From the working drawing to the first fire: the heater being drawn, the arches and hexagonal terracotta tiles being laid, the plastering, then the fire; sounds of the fire and the tools.

Before anything else

A masonry heater is not a wood stove.
The difference comes down to one idea: mass.

CriterionConventional wood stoveMasonry heater
What heats upthe air, as long as the fire burnsthe material, which then releases heat for hours
Firing rhythmreloading every hour or twoone or two burns a day
Heat as you feel ithot, dry, stratified airradiant heat, like the sun on your skin
What you buya mass-produced appliancea masonry structure, sized for one house

This table does not say a masonry heater is better: it says it meets a different need. The flip side of thermal inertia is slowness — it will not warm a room in ten minutes, and it weighs enough that the floor has to be checked before it is built.

The mass, hour by hour

One burn, twenty-four hours.

11 h

The fire is out. The mass radiates, like sunshine on your skin.

Illustrative curve, not measured. The heat calculation for your project gives you your own.

The method

Made-to-measure is not a style.
It is a sequence of calculations.

01

Study & design calculation

Plans, volumes, consumption figures: the heater is sized for your house, not picked from a catalogue.

02

3D design

The 3D drawing settles the technical and aesthetic choices before the first brick: you see your heater before it exists.

03

Workshop preparation

Cutting and dry-assembly of the heater core in our workshop: the time spent on site in your home is shortened accordingly.

04

Construction & installation

Masonry, connection to the flue, commissioning: a single point of contact, qualified in both flue work and masonry.

05

Handover & documents

User manual, heater data sheet, instructions, handover report: your heater is delivered with its paperwork.

The proof is in the projects
