The design is made of softened edges and curved lines: the upper section turns over in a wave, the front opens in a vaulted niche, and nothing presents a sharp corner at hip height.
The contrast is carried by the polished granite, which caps the base and overhangs as a shelf: a dark, lustrous stone against a pale, matt render. Granite stores little heat, but it takes knocks, wipes clean with a sponge and will bear a hot pan being set down on it.
The firebox is framed in brushed stainless steel — a third material, clean-cut, which keeps the heater from tipping into the rustic.
Built in October 2013.
