A warm atmosphere at 1,500 m altitude
in this old mountain chalet, fully renovated as new.
The Alps are the favourite playground of masonry heaters and other Kachelofen. This type of heater is indeed very common in the Tyrol, in Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Italy. We receive more and more requests like this one: new or renovated chalets in Savoie (73), Haute-Savoie (74), the Ain (01) and the Jura (39).
Clients want to bring back the warmth of a wood fire in this kind of high-altitude chalet, where the cold can be ‘biting’. All the more so as it is the ideal type of heater for burning softwood. Heat-storage stoves do indeed accept all types of wood as fuel.

The heater consists of a see-through firebox, known as a ‘tunnel’ (two glass doors), combined with a modular storage core (Ortner KMS).
Here the heater is rendered, then painted in a contemporary colour (blue-grey). The heater’s design divides the large living space, with the kitchen and dining room on one side and the sitting room on the other. The fire is visible from both sides of the heater. The cladding wraps the core in simple geometric shapes. The heater has a convection air gap between the core and the cladding, which sends warm air towards the stairwell (and then upstairs).
