The composition plays on two materials and two tones. The mass is rendered in matt ivory, in a single plane, and opens through a horizontal firebox with wide glazing. A vertical niche is cut over the full height to the left of the firebox, like a slot of light in the volume.
The heated bench, for its part, is tiled with black glazed bricks with light joints: a shiny, hard material that stands up to use and contrasts with the matt render above. The bench runs the full width of the unit and extends beyond it.
